Chapter Thirty-Three Visiting Bert's House

The lunch at Lao Zhang’s house is a standard American meal.

The main meal was pasta, each with a bowl of rice-style butter mushroom soup, the dish included a plate of vegetable salad, a whole roasted chicken, a plate of mashed potatoes, and a portion of fried onion rings.

For Americans who have more formal dinners, such a lunch is already very rich.

However, Sun Cheng also saw that Lao Zhang, who lives in Perfect Town, has been completely Americanized.

After all, it was someone else's treat. Although he was not used to eating, Sun Cheng did not show it.

After finishing the meal, he wanted to help clean up but was rejected by Lao Zhang.

With Lao Zhang's grandson Ma Wen, staying in the grocery store to rest, the kid couldn't help it after a quiet time and took the initiative to ask him about the Big Apple City.

"They all say that the Big Apple is the most prosperous big city in the world, is that true?"

Sun Cheng thought for a while and nodded and admitted: "It is true that it is heaven during the day and hell at night. Of course, if you are rich, the Big Apple City is heaven for you all year round!"

Marvin was full of yearning for the paradise he said, but he was a little puzzled, "Why is Big Apple City at night hell?"

Sun Cheng: "The police also need to rest. The gap between the rich and the poor and there are too many immigrants. The public security in Big Apple City will be relatively poor at night. After ten o'clock, even if we are in Tangbu, we rarely go out?"

While chatting, a wind chime sounded from the door, and then a middle-aged white man with slightly curly hair walked in.

Seeing the strange face Sun Cheng, the middle-aged white man didn't feel much surprised. Instead, he smiled and took the initiative to walk over, "Hi, Ma Wen!"

He first greeted the gangster and then sat down next to Sun Cheng.

"I'm Nast, Burt has told me you, Sun, I'm glad to know you!"

"I'm very happy to meet you too!"

After a few simple conversations, Sun Cheng learned more about Nast.

Nast, who is in his forties, is a local born in a small town, just like most people in the town.

He went to Bisby City to work for more than 20 years as an adult. Later, after divorced his wife, he was disheartened about the outside world and returned to Perfect Town again.

Sun Cheng drove one kilometer away from the town in the morning and saw a simple home composed of a small wooden house with a fence of only a dozen square meters and a mobile house. It was his residence.

By the way, Nast was a Protestant, so he was entrusted by Lao Zhang to serve as a pastor when Zhang Bo was buried.

After two o'clock in the afternoon, Lao Zhang's grocery store began to become lively.

It seemed that all the residents of the town were regarded as a gathering place. Bert and his wife Heather drove to the car shortly after Nast arrived. Little Wa and Earl returned to the grocery store more than half an hour after them.

"Old Zhang, we didn't find anyone except Eiger, we have notified everyone in the town."

Xiao Wa asked for beer, took a sip and complained, "Iger didn't know where to go. There was no one at his house. The stove fire had already been extinguished. At least one or two days later!"

Earl glanced at Burt and joked: "Maybe he was worried that Burt would come to collect debts and ran away early!"

Eiger is the only vegetable supplier in Perfect Town. Like Naster, he left Perfect Town in his early years.

Later, he came back for some reason. He bought some land from the town's mayor and the only rich man in the town, and built a farm to grow vegetables.

In addition to providing cheap vegetables to Perfect Town, Eiger's Farm also provides vegetables to several restaurants in Bisby.

But Old Egg is old after all, and he is in his sixties and the farm he cultivates alone is only seven or eight acres.

In the United States, small farms can't make much money, so he owed Bert a lot of money.

Heather gave Earl a blank look, sat down next to him and knocked on the table.

"How do we talk? Are we trying to make things difficult for several thousand meters?"

The crowd was chatting, and Lao Zhang walked into the grocery store from behind with a few shovels.

"A few people come and go to the cemetery to follow me. Today we will dig the tomb in advance!"

Xiao Wa and Earl stood up first, and Sun Cheng took a shovel.

Finally, Nast and Bert, a total of six men took two cars together. After driving out of the town center, they drove four or five kilometers southwest before stopping in front of a simple cemetery surrounded by wooden fences.

Sun Cheng glanced at the entrance of the cemetery, a piece of granite about one person tall was standing there, with four traditional Chinese characters engraved with [Zhang's Ancestral Land]. He knew that this was the family cemetery of Lao Zhang and his family.

Although the cemetery is simple, it is really not small in size, which is as big as thousands of square meters.

It can be seen that people often come to clean the cemetery, and there are not many weeds in it. Instead, some pine trees, roses and chrysanthemums that are rarely seen in the Perfect Town.

In the center of the cemetery, three connected stone tombs seem to be a bit old.

Old Zhang seemed to notice Sun Cheng's gaze, pointed and said, "That is my grandfather, grandma and my dad's tomb!"

He didn't mention his mother, and seemed to have any taboos.

Sun Cheng didn't ask much about this, nodded and bowed slightly to the three tombs, then followed Lao Zhang and came to a piece of land that was circled out with lime in advance.

"This is what my elder brother chose for him, and my sister-in-law is next to him!"

Lao Zhang looked at a new grave next to him with sadness. It was the cemetery that was personally selected by his elder brother when Uncle Zhang's wife passed away a few years ago.

Without his instructions, Xiao Wa and Earl spat in their hands and started to work hard with their shovels.

Sun Cheng and the others also quickly followed, because the soil in Perfect Town was severely desertified. In just over half an hour, a slender tomb that was about one meter five deep was dug out.

Lao Zhang thanked him for a while and asked everyone to rest next to him. He personally took a shovel to adjust the tomb.

After the completion, everyone did not stay in the cemetery for long. Shortly after returning to the grocery store, everyone agreed to attend Zhang Bo’s funeral the next morning and left.

Sun Cheng did not continue to stay in Lao Zhang's grocery store. He was very interested in Bert. He mentioned it to him when he was in the cemetery before, hoping to visit the firearms that Bert collected, and was also warmly invited by Bert.

He followed Bert and his wife's car and drove away from the town center and rushed to his home.
